1 card, 2 challenges.

Today I am entering my card into the WPlus9 Birthday Celebrations Trend Watch challenge and 52 Cards challenge 2014 - Week 8. I am using the sketch from 52 cards and have taken water colouring and enamel dots from the trend watch challenge to make my card.

I decided to finish this card at about 3am which is why the stitching is a tad wonky and needed to be covered with an enamel dot ;)

Step it Up!

The birthday celebrations continue over at WPlus9 and the challenge is to Step It Up by adding dimension to your project. I am a big fan of foam pads and don't seem to be able to make a card without them, I have yet to delve into the world of embossing pastes as another way to add texture but I hope to rectify that over the weekend.

I used two of my favourite stamp sets and also stayed in my comfort zone as per the challenge I missed last week. I popped up the flowers and banner using foam dots to add dimension and used my favourite blue ink combination that I always seem to go back to.

I couldn't bear to throw away the spare pieces so used them up on this clean and simple card.

Working with Watercolours

As you may have seen from my previous post, I have just discovered the fun of using watercolours with my stamping and WPlus9 has a great step-by-step guide on one of the ways to do this, playing along, I decided to use the lovely Merry and Bright stamp set and dies.

Card - Bazzill. Watercolour Paper - Winsor and Newton. Ink - Memento.

Simply stamp your stamp on to your ink pad, you can then either take a mini mister or a wet paintbrush and spray/brush across the surface then stamp! Easy! I need to work some more on this card to balance it out a little better. It's a fun technique and so easy to do, so much so that I have decided to experiment some more. I have a couple more cards that are currently drying that I will post later!

WPlus9 Monday Mood Board #26

I managed to rustle up a card for WPlus9's Monday Mood board,, isn't the inspiration picture so pretty?

Paper-MME. Stamps-WPlus9. Doily dies - MFT and Cheery 

Lynn. Ink - Memento. Lace - Dainty Paperie.

I liked the wooden boards so used some wood print paper and a little white pigment ink to recreate the look from the picture. I finished it off with Fresh Cut Florals and the sentiment on a small MFT doily.

I haven't done much crafty shopping for a while but was happy to find Studio Calico wood veneers at my local Homesense and TKMaxx for £1.99 a pack and cute little American Crafts glitter pegs for the same price.

I have been wanting to experiment with watercolours for a while but haven't found a set at a reasonable price so it wouldn't be too bad if I don't get on with them, however, I did pick up this set today for £4.99. I can't wait to start playing!

52 Christmas Crackers 2014 - Week 1

I managed to send a grand total of 5 Christmas cards in 2013, a shameful turnout for a card maker! This year I have decided to join in with 52 Christmas Crackers hosted by Nat over at her blog Kool Kitty Musings, it's a challenge to make a Christmas card a week following the prompts and by the time December comes around you will have a fantastic array to choose from.

This week's prompt is to use something new and it was the perfect excuse to break out my new Wplus9 Merry and Bright stamps and dies.

Card stock-Bazzill, Merry and Bright stamps and dies-Wplus9, ink-Memento,

vellum-Making Memories, herringbone embossing folder-Provocraft, glitter 

card-Home Bargains, embossing powder-Stewart Superior.

I'm in love with purple at the moment, especially rich dark purples like the Bazzill cardshoppe card stock I used on this card. I had fun die cutting 2 pieces of acetate and sandwiching them together to make the hurricane lantern, originally I had sprinkled a ton of stickles and glitter at the bottom of the jar to look like snow but it looked like a lump of frog spawn, ick! I cleaned them off and cut a snow drift from white glitter card and it looks much nicer.

I went with a more traditional colour scheme on this one, i really felt like it was lacking something so i added some washi tape to help balance it out, looking at it now i think i will also a couple of wraps of bakers twine at the bottom of the washi too.

It feels good to have 2 Christmas cards made already! Fortuitously, they both fit in with the current challenge over at Daring Cardmakers - This Little Light of Mine, double bonus!

The First of the Year

I have been putting off the dreaded 'c' word for some time, but I have finally decided to take the plunge and make my first Christmas card of 2013. I have been admiring the new Wplus9 Merry and Bright stamp set, a Christmas companion to Fresh Cut Florals, and decided that I would try and recreate my own festive card using Fresh Cut Florals and here is the result.

The card base is Papertrey Ink ripe avocado, I die cut and embossed a panel of white card and sewed it to the base, stamped some die cut berries and leaves using pure poppy, ripe avocado and simply chartreuse and adhered them in a circle using foam pads. The small doily is by My Favourite Things and the sentiment is from PTI Tag It's #8. I had fun making the wreath hanger and bow from washi tape. I was slow to pick up on the washi tape craze but find myself using it more and more, I'm worried that I will amass a large collection as I have almost 20 rolls already (That's nothing, have you seen this?)

A Note of Thanks

I really do love Fresh Cut Florals stamps and dies from Wplus9, I think it may even be in my top 3 of all time. Unfortunately for you, it means you'll be seeing it more than a few times here over the next few months and for that I am sorry*

I love the starkness of black and grey paired with bright florals, and I already had the background strips cut so it was pretty easy to pull together.

I had enough stamped flowers and strips left over to make a coordinating tag too. I am currently trying to make a dent in my pile of 'scraps' so every time I make a card I have to use up all the remaining leftovers on another card or tag before I allow myself to move on. I think I made 6 in this manner over the weekend but I'll share them in another post.

A Tale Of Two Mum's

I know, silly title, but it's the best I can come up with this Sunday afternoon! September was a busy month for birthdays, my sweet nephew, my mother-in-law and my lovely, wonderful Mum.

This was a card that I just kept adding to, sometimes I need to learn when to say stop! I had a play with my new fresh cut florals stamp set and dies from Wplus9, they are so beautiful and so much fun to play with.

Florals again, quite predictable from me, this time I used Cutting Garden stamps and lots of patience cutting them all out :)

Love This>Written On Ribbon.

I am a new customer to Wplus9, my first purchase was the fabulous Folk Art Florals which I adore and I have just purchased the gorgeous Written on Ribbon stamp set and die and could not wait to combine the two together, these really are wonderful stamps.

Here are two cards made with the two sets;

 

I think the ribbon banner and die cut have a truly classic feel, and, I would love to try and use it to recreate a more 'traditional' tattoo art style, I also think it will work perfectly on male cards. It is so versatile that I can't wait to try some more styles when I next have time to craft.

 

I haven't even begun to use all of the images in Folk Art Florals, I have to say that this card is one of my favourite inspiration pieces for this set.
